marching along

Hey there! Just wanted to write a little update about what we have going on.

We’ve been rehearsing when we can, but it’s a bit tough with life being as busy as it is. Brad, Alan, and myself are pleased to have Will Hensley joining us on bass for some live shows! Now we feel like groundhogs poking our heads out for the first time in half a decade and we’re finding the landscape here in LA is a very different place.

But our droll continues to sound. We’ve been releasing singles from our upcoming 8th album, Guerrilla Gorilla. The idea for this record formulated in my head back around 2016 or 2017… when the list of albums I had that I one day wanted to record began to take on a shape, conducting electricity from record to record almost like entries in a long book series. But I’ll write about that more once the record is actually out.

So far, we’ve released Primitive Contagions, The Beast, and Seconal. We have two more singles scheduled out until the album release (November 5th). The reception has been great. I’m aware a sizable chunk of my audience likes their Johnny on the heavy side. So I’m pleased we’re releasing this grumpy mammoth of a record. This record was intentionally written to be the heaviest in our discography (although album 11 will give it a run for it’s money).

Album #9 is well underway. Drums, bass, and rhythm guitars are all done (as well as synths and other textures). Next up I have all the vocals to track and then Alan can lay down his lead guitars. Meanwhile, Brad has already started tracking drums for album #10. So we are marching along at a good clip. We’d like to release a record a year, but more than likely it’ll be a new record every 1.5 or 2 years. There’s just so much to do.

Oh, and we re-released the original 4 Johnny Stranger albums on Bandcamp. And we also released a compilation record of B-sides from those early years. Give em a listen!
